What is Cerebral palsy?
Cerebral palsy is one the most common cause of childhood disability. It refers to a group of neurological disorders which cause delayed development (predominantly motor issues). It is caused due to insult to the developing brain either in-utero, at the time of birth or within the first two years of life.
What is the importance of Early Intervention in Cerebral Palsy?
Brain damage in Cerebral Palsy is not progressive. However, if not intervened early it may lead to severe secondary and tertiary complications in the form of spasticity, joint contracture, bony deformities and joint dislocations.
Early intervention prevents complications and facilitates the child’s participation in activities at home/school and social environment. However, each child with cerebral palsy has a different set of problems and hence the treatment plan needs to be individualized for each child.
What is the Comprehensive Cerebral Palsy Clinic and what does it offer?
